MINIATURE COURSE: RELIGION
UNITARIANISM DEPENDS ON MATERIALISM
Unitarianism is a philosophical religion begun
in the United States as an off-shoot of
Protestantism, which adopts an egalitarian
broadness in the scope of encompassed
religions and acceptable denominations.
Unitarianism is symbolic of religious openness,
in the extreme. Buddhists and Atheists are
commonly found amongst the congregations.
What is an interesting stipulation is that
Unitarianism is religious at all. Even Unitarians
find this interesting. Unitarianism is afterall an
interesting religion. Saints may be normal.
In saying such an epochal thing as saints may
be normal, however, we are also saying that
materialism has spiritual value.
Interestingly this covertly avoids some of the
potential errors of asceticism, but on the other
hand it provides a particularly American
perspective on what may otherwise be a highly
cultural endeavor of religion.
Questions may arise, that for example, idealism
is better understood in a commercialized
context---a wave of the future, or otherwise
there may be reason to consider normalcy as a
defense against insanity for true religious
leaders.
